Plant a Tree -  A Program and a Philosophy

1993 Tree PlantingThe original Plant a Tree program began in 1993, the inspiration of Dave Haglund, founder and CEO of Kitchen Tune-Up.  In the time since, over 25,000 trees have been planted, surrounding the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Our company was founded on the "Tune-Up" process over twenty years ago, reconditioning wood surfaces and retaining, rather than disposing of cabinets or woodwork.  This focus on conservation is an integral part of who Kitchen Tune-Up is today.  The philosophy that inspired Dave's donation fifteen years ago lives today in our systemwide Trust Points and is echoed throughout all of our locations, no matter where they're physically based.

Today, we offer much more than the original Tune-Up service, but we still incorporate those same principles of respecting our environment, valuing our neighbors and achieving the highest standards of workmanship.  We feel there is a real need for more eco-friendly alternatives in home improvement and to bring attention to that, we've launched a new Plant a Tree campaign, revised for 2008.  We've committed to planting a tree for every "Tune-Up" Reconditioning, Redooring or Refacing that our franchises perform until the end of the year. To do this, we've partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, working diligently to reforest areas devastated by wildfire, infestation or disease in our country's National Forests.  Each person who has donated through their actions is honored on our online Gratitude Page and receives a personal "thanks" from our Home Office in Aberdeen, SD.

We're proud to be in a position to educate homeowners about earth-friendly home improvement options and help sustain our National Forests at the same time!
