From Vision to Reality: A Dream Kitchen Years in the Making
Some remodels start with a Pinterest board. Others with a desperate need for more space or newer appliances. But for the Gill family, their kitchen remodel journey began long before blueprints or budgets. This was a vision nurtured over many years, slowly coming into focus as they made thoughtful upgrades to their home, room by room. They had always known that when the time was right—when their budget allowed for the high-end, fully custom kitchen they envisioned—Kitchen Tune-Up would be the team to bring that dream to life.
A Kitchen That Couldn’t Keep Up
The existing kitchen was a patchwork of older cabinets, DIY projects done well but showing their age, and open industrial shelving. It had personality, but didn’t reflect their shared love of cooking, nor did it rise to the level of elegance and function they desired for hosting family and friends.
Then one day, it started—like many big ideas do—with a simple suggestion: moving the fridge.
That small suggestion turned into a full conversation, and that conversation sparked something much bigger: the full remodel they had been waiting for.
Designing a Kitchen with Soul (and Storage)
Next began the collaboration between the Gills and Kitchen Tune-Up Glen Rock, NJ. Starting with the layout, they opted to remove a structural wall at the back of the kitchen to reclaim an old storage area and make the space feel larger. New windows were also added, flooding the kitchen with natural light and making the space feel more open and welcoming.
Though the kitchen wasn’t quite wide enough to allow for a traditional island, they landed on a creative solution: a small peninsula that gave the family a cozy, built-in spot to gather and dine together—without compromising the flow of the space.
With ceilings that soared high above, vertical design was embraced to incorporate beautiful glass-front cabinet top boxes to draw the eye upward and maximize storage.
Function Meets Flair
As avid home chefs and frequent entertainers, the Gills didn’t just want beauty—they needed function with flair. Top-of-the-line appliances were selected, including a 6-burner gas range, a vented chimney range hood with ducted make-up air, and a built-in under-cabinet icemaker that’s become the star of every gathering!
On the aesthetic side, every finish was selected with care. A quartz backsplash was installed behind the cooking range for durability and easy maintenance, while the coffee and bar nook got its own signature touch: an antiqued mirror backsplash paired with a stunning walnut and brass shelving system. The contrast is striking—sophisticated, stylish, and undeniably unique.
A Kitchen Worth the Wait
The final result was a true chef’s kitchen and a showpiece for entertaining—tailored, timeless, and bursting with thoughtful details. Every choice reflected a balance of beauty and purpose. Both the Gill family and Kitchen Tune-Up Glen Rock, NJ shared a fun and rewarding remodel experience.
