Client Story: A New Albany Home Gets a Fresh Look

The client, a recent homeowner in New Albany, Ohio, faced a common challenge: an outdated kitchen that lacked functionality. The existing cabinets included a planning desk that took up valuable space, and the island overhang made it difficult to access the fridge easily. However, the homeowner loved the classic white cabinets and wanted to enhance both aesthetics and practicality.

Design Vision: Custom Features and Clever Solutions

1. Cabinet Refacing with a Twist

Our team at Kitchen Tune-Up specializes in cabinet refacing, also known as cabinet resurfacing. For this project, we went beyond the basics. Cabinet refacing involved replacing all doors and drawer fronts with soft-close hinges and drawer glides. But we didn’t stop there! We also added new cabinets in the new color to create a cohesive look.

2. Removing the Planning Desk

The first step was to remove the planning desk, freeing up valuable space. Instead, we proposed adding a beverage center and additional cabinets for storage. The result? A cleaner, more open kitchen layout.

3. Island Makeover & Hood Design

The island needed a makeover. We removed the overhang in front of the fridge and added electrical outlets. Why? To accommodate a microwave drawer, making meal prep more convenient. The new hood over the cooktop became a striking focal point, and glass door inserts on the flanking cabinets added elegance.

4. Introducing Island Number Two

Anticipating that the island would become a popular gathering spot, we conceptualized a second island. This additional seating area would be perfect for entertaining family and friends. To protect against kicks, scratches, and spills, we added waterfall edging on both sides of the island.

5. Countertops and Backsplash

For a dramatic effect, we chose Portrush Cambria countertops. The navy and black veining with gold flakes on a creamy white foundation added sophistication. To seamlessly continue the countertop design the backsplash was continued up the wall. This is also known as full-height splash.

6. Soft Floral White and Indigo Cabinets

To tie everything together, the client opted for soft floral white cabinets with indigo accents. The combination exuded freshness and elegance, transforming the kitchen into a space that was both beautiful and functional.
